Iranians greet Obama
In Iran, everybody was deeply interested in the American elections. The Iranian media often mentioned the subject and constantly speculated on the winner. Even if the main leaders of the country maintain their resentful criticism of the United States, the population hoped that Barack Obama would win the election as with him the relations between the two countries could get better. ”I think that the candidate which will restore the relations with Iran will be the best candidate for us because with him, the sanctions which has been imposed against our country could be removed, and we, as the international community could benefit from it” an inhabitant of Teheran said. The result of this election was therefore greeted by the Iranians.

A spy for Iran
An Army interpreter serving in Afghanistan, became an agent for Iran, a court has been told. Since the latter part of 2006, Daniel James sent coded messages to an Iranian military attaché in Kabul telling him "I am at your service". In fact, the defendant's loyalty to this country wavered and his loyalties turned to Iran, the country of his birth. He was arrested in December 2006, just two months after he had made contact with Colonel Mohammad Hossein Heydari, an Iranian military assistant based at Tehran's embassy in Kabul.

When he was arrested, Mr. James was found to have a USB device with two "Nato Confidential" documents stored on it. The court heard the documents, known as Situation Reports, which provided a daily update on military operations in Afghanistan. Police found a computer disc containing seven photographs of the "highly sensitive" Predator unmanned spy plane in his room at the base in Kabul, - apparently taken unofficially in a restricted area of Kandahar air base.
Mr. James made no comment when told he was under arrest on suspicion of espionage, but later told a police officer: "The ADC might have set me up, he hates me... Captain Simon Briggs." He denies two charges under the Secrets Act of communicating information useful to an enemy and a second count of collecting such information on a USB memory stick.

King Size oil projects

Sunday 11 January
King Size Oil Projects
Iran, the world’s fourth-largest crude oil producer, is to boost its refining capacity to meet its internal needs. The country is making a $23.22 billion investment to build seven refineries. The aim is to increase the daily production of crude oil from more than 4 million barrels per day to 5.3 mbpd during the next seven years.
The construction by the Persian Gulf Star (association between the Star Petrogas Corporation and a number of companies led by the oil ministry) of 360,000 plants condensed refinery in the port city of Bandar Abbas is scheduled for the end of 2010 although the secondary refining units will be ready this year. It will use gas condensates, from its South Pars field, which will be provided by the National Iranian Oil Company. NIOC (National Iranian Oil Company) said that 100 oil projects would be functional by March 2009.

Once completed, this scheme will make of the Bandar Abbas region the biggest oil refinery in the Middle East, with a capacity of one million barrels of crude oil per day. The $2.5 billion refinery will afford high-level value-added outputs and nearly two-thirds of its capacity will be used to upgrade 251,000 bpd into 40 million liters of petrol. The rest will be used to furnish 20 million liters of middle distillates like liquid gases, kerosene and diesel fuel daily in order to fulfill domestic charges.
Iran also thinks about a $1.2 billion expansion project to double the capacity of its 110000-bpj refineries in Tabriz.

The country is making an investment of $23.22 billion to build seven refineries and related plants. Iran has a daily crude production capacity of over 4 million barrels per day (mbpd) and plans to raise it to 5.3 mbpd in the next seven years.
