Iranian nuclear scientist assassinated
15/01/12
On Wednesday January 15, nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan and his bodyguard were killed as they drove to work by a motorcyclist who came alongside and clamped a magnetic bomb to their car. The 32-year old scientist knew that he was a target for assassination - he was seriously protected - but this murder sent shock waves across the country.
Rowshan was indeed involved in Iran's nuclear program. He was the third Iranian scientist to be killed in the past two years. The Iranian regime has blamed the United States and Israel for this “heinous act”. But the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton categorically denied “any United States involvement in any kind of act of violence inside Iran”.
This murder has sparked outrage in Iran and the State TV showed demonstrations to protest against Rowshan’s killing.
Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran, declared "We shall persist in punishing the perpetrators of this crime, as well those supporting them behind the scenes". Then he accused the CIA and the Mossad services to be responsible of this attack.
Opinion: the US government might have organized this killing to hinder Iran's progress towards strategic technology. But this is a really dangerous method, because the Iranian answer to this assassination could be quick and more violent.

Protesters storm UK embassy

11/12/11

On November 30th, demonstrators broke into two British diplomatic compounds in Tehran during a demonstration against sanctions imposed by Britain to Iran for its nuclear policy.
Militant students burned the British flag, smashed the embassy windows, hurling gasoline bombs. The Iranian TV showed that the security forces fired tear gas, some protesters and policemen were injured. It also showed some Iranians chanting “death to England”.
During the demonstration the security forces appeared slow to react and to stop the violence, according to the people who were inside the embassy.
This demonstration also took place to mark the death of an Iranian scientist in an attack Iran blamed on British and Israeli intelligence agencies, this scientist worked on nuclear technology for the Iranian government.
British Prime Minister David Cameron said: "The attack on the British embassy in Tehran today was outrageous and indefensible." And Britain promised "serious consequences”. The UK Foreign Office told the British people who live in Iran to "stay indoors, keep a low profile and await further advice".
The international community condemned the attack. Barack Obama said he was "deeply disturbed", while the French Foreign Minister Alain Juppé declared "the Iranian regime has shown what little consideration it has for international law".
Iran insists its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only but other countries in the world don’t seem to believe it.
