Twelve Executions last Wednesday

12 people have been hanged on Wednesday: nine persons, including a woman were hanged at Tehran’s Evin Prison, and three others in Shiraz.

The eight men executed in Evin Prison were found guilty of various murders and rape. Three of them were under 18 at the time they killed someone. Iran violated the international standards prohibiting the use of death penalty for persons under 18. The woman was sentenced for killing her employer in 2001. There are rarely women executions. And the three other men were hanged in Shiraz at the scene of their crime (kidnapping, molestation and rape on two women).

The death penalty is administered in Iran for murder, rape, adultery, armed robbery and drug smuggling. Amnesty International announced last month that Iran had already executed 177 people in 2006 and 250 this year.

Douze exécutions mercredi dernier
Douze personnes ont été exécutées mercredi: 9 personnes, dont une femme ont été pendus à la prison d'Evin à Téhéran, et trois autres à Chiraz.
Les huit hommes exécutés à la prison d'Evin étaient coupables de plusieurs meurtres et viols.
Trois d'entre eux avaient moins de 18 ans au moment des faits. Ainsi l'Iran a violé les droits internationaux interdisant la peine de mort pour les personnes âgées de moins de 18 ans. La femme a été condamnée pour le meurtre de son employeur en 2001. Pourtant il y a rarement des exécutions de femmes. Et les trois autres hommes ont été pendus à Chiraz sur la scène du viol de deux femmes enlevées et séquestrées.
La condamnation à la peine de mort est requise en cas de meurtre, de viol, d'adultère, de vol à main armée et de trafic de drogues.

Amnesty International a annoncé le mois dernier qu'il y avait eu 177 exécutions en Iran en 2006 contre 250 cette année.

Putin to go to Iran

Finally President Vladimir Putin has not cancelled his project to visit Iran today, even if it is rumoured that 'suicide bombers plot to kill him in Tehran.' (Interfax)
For the Iran foreign ministry, these rumours are 'completely groundless.'

He will be the first Kremlin leader to travel to Iran since Josef Stalin attended the 1943 wartime summit with Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Mr Putin and Iranian leaders are due to talk about the controversial Iranian nuclear program.
US leaders are suspecting Iran to plan to develop nuclear weapons, however Iran has insisted that their programme is non-aggressive. Mr Putin said :

'It is futile to frighten Iran and its people. They are not scared.'

Poutine confirme son voyage en Iran

Le président Poutine n'a pas annulé son voyage en Iran, malgré les rumeurs d'Interfax selon lesquelles : ' des terroristes préparaient contre lui un attentat suicide à Téhéran.'
Mais pour le ministre des affaires étrangères iranien, de telles rumeurs sont 'complètement infondées'.

C'est la première visite d’un dirigeant du Kremlin en Iran depuis Staline en 1943.

Le but du voyage de Poutine est de discuter du très controversé programme
nucléaire iranien.
Les Etats-Unis accusent l'Iran de chercher à développer une arme nucléaire en vue d’un conflit, mais l'Iran réfute ces accusations et insiste sur le caractère pacifique de son programme.

' Rien ne sert d'effrayer L'Iran et ses habitants. Ils n'ont pas peur.'
