versus Hollywood

Iran
plans on suing Argo and several Hollywood movies because they
would impair Iran's image.
Argo,
which won Academy Award for Best Picture, relates the story of an
exfiltration following the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. This story is
supposed to be based on declassified US records, whereas according to
Iran, those facts "don't fit with reality".
To
sue Hollywood, Iranian minister for culture hired a French lawyer,
Maître Isabelle
Coutant-Peyre who assisted Mohamed Merah's father during the case
provoked by his son, and who is married with terrorist Ilich Ramírez
Sánchez better known as Carlos the Jackal.
This
lawyer considers suing Hollywood in a French court because there is a
law that punishes defamation even committed abroad. According to her,
some Hollywood movies including Argo were filmed in order to
harm the image of this country.
The
movie Argo triggered
strong reactions in Iran as soon as the movie was released, mostly
from the government, but also among many civilians for this movie
caricatures Iranians as being all revolutionaries.
Iran
also blamed a movie which doesn't seem critical to Iran: 300,
a movie both historical and fantastic which relates the Battle of
Thermophylae during which 300 Spartans died as heroes. President
MahmudAhmadinejad
blames this movie for insulting Iran, which seems excessive because
this movie doesn't take place during Iran's revolutionary period but
during antiquity.
Opinion
: It is true that the movie Argo is very critical of Iran and
that some images can border on the caricature but the legal action
led by Iran is mainly symbolic and the trial may never occur.
Moreover,
the choice of the lawyer Maître Coutant-Peyre is not insignificant,
indeed, this lawyer would have an anti-Zionist reputation in Iran and
she participated to some mediatised trials.
The
Iranian government truly exaggerated the accusations, especially for
the movie 300 which doesn't take any critical look about Iran.
L'Iran
s'attaque à Hollywood
L'Iran
envisage d'attaquer en justice Argo ainsi que plusieurs films
hollywoodiens car ils porteraient atteinte à l'image de l'Iran.
Argo,
qui a obtenu l'Oscar du meilleur film, raconte l'histoire d'une
exfiltration suite à la crise des otages américains en Iran en
1979. Ce récit est censé être basé sur des dossiers américains
déclassifiés, alors que selon l'Iran ces faits "ne
correspondent pas à la réalité".
Pour
poursuivre en justice Hollywood, le ministère de la culture iranien
a engagé une avocate française, Maître Isabelle
Coutant-Peyre qui a notamment assisté le père de Mohamed
Merah lors de l'affaire soulevée par son fils et qui est mariée au
terroriste Ilich Ramírez Sánchez dit Carlos.
Cette
avocate envisage d'attaquer Hollywood dans un tribunal français car
il existe une loi qui punit la diffamation même pour un pays. Selon
elle, certains films hollywoodiens dont Argo ont été tournés
dans le but de nuire à l'image de ce pays.
Le
film Argo a déclenché dès sa sortie de très vives
réactions en Iran, principalement de la part du gouvernement, mais
aussi, fait plus rare, chez un grand nombre de civils car
ce film montre tous les Iraniens comme des révolutionnaires.
L'Iran
a aussi condamné un film qui ne parait pas critique envers l'Iran:
300, film à la fois
historique et fantastique qui raconte la Bataille des Thermophyles au
Vème siècle avant JC, bataille au cours de laquelle 300 Spartiates
moururent en héros. Le président Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad accuse ce film d'insulter
l'Iran, ce qui parait
excessif car le film se déroule non pas à la période de l'Iran
révolutionnaire mais pendant l'Antiquité.
Opinion
: Il est vrai que le film Argo, que j'ai vu, est très
critique envers l'Iran et que certaines images peuvent être assez
caricaturales mais l'action juridique menée par l'Iran est
principalement symbolique et le procès n'aura peut-être pas lieu.
De
plus, le choix comme avocat de Maître Coutant-Peyre n'est pas
anodin: en effet cette avocate aurait une réputation anti-sioniste
en Iran et elle a participé à plusieurs procès médiatiques.
Le
gouvernement iranien a vraiment exagéré ses accusations, en
particulier pour le film 300 qui ne porte aucun regard
critique sur l'Iran.
